Prof. Dr. Sir Hari Om Srivastava holds the distinction of being the only individual worldwide to win the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union Award six consecutive times (1984–1990). In 2017, he received a Knighthood (KStJ) from the Ecumenical Medical-Humanitarian Order Knights of St John of Jerusalem in Colombo, Sri Lanka, along with a UN Gold Medal for exemplary contributions to humanity. Joining the Indian Broadcasting Service in 1972, Prof. Dr. Sir Hari Om Srivastava rose to Additional Director General (HAG grade, equivalent to Additional Secretary to the Government of India) at All India Radio. He established the IT Division of All India Radio, conceptualised BECIL (a public sector undertaking under MIB), and founded AIR Resources. As Chairman of IETE Delhi (2000–2002), he reformed electronics and telecommunication education. He signed MOUs with IGNOU to establish 40 educational FM stations (10 kW each) nationwide, and played a key role in enacting the Government of India Act for Community Radio in 2002.

Prof. Dr. Sir Hari Om Srivastava served as Commonwealth Expert in Malaysia in 1991 and ITU Expert in Malaysia in 1992, sharing expertise in audio-video archiving across Asia-Pacific. In 1995, he addressed the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Vietnam as the official Delegate from India. In 2015, he led the World Development Foundation's project in Ethiopia — establishing seven Community Radio Stations for the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), Government of Ethiopia. He also visited TDF France in 1999 to deliberate on All India Radio and Doordarshan dilution policy, and attended a management course at the Royal Institute of Public Administration, London, in 1984.

The 2001 US visit coincided with Dr. Srivastava's work in establishing the online distance education system for IGNOU — Indira Gandhi National Open University, the world's largest distance learning institution — which extended quality education to four million students across India. He also inspected broadcast transmitters at Harris, USA during this period, which were part of the IGNOU broadcast infrastructure.
He addressed the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Vietnam in 1995 as the official Delegate from India, contributing to regional discussions on online learning systems, broadcast infrastructure, and the development of public communication technology across the Asia-Pacific region.
